Fire escape are about love.

People sit there as they talk on the phone about someone they have a crush on. Then the person they have the crush visits them, but on the street, so there’s a Romeo and Juliet scene. Actually, I think that is in West Side Story. One looks down, one looks up, a scene of flirtation, a declaration of love.

There’s an escape down the fire escape, a run to a special spot. Or maybe someone climbs up the fire escape, and there’s a night long chat, with the two of them sitting on the fire escape until the sun comes up.

I love you, good-bye. I’ll see you again. Something like that.

There are also harsh break ups via fire escape but I don’t have the effort to write about something depressing like that.

I don’t really see shutters on apartment windows in the city very much, so when I found this whole wall’s worth of shutters in a back alleyway, I was both surprised and amused.

Ever wonder what kind of family lives in those beautiful houses? I like imagining a family with kids and a dog.

The mother teaches arts and crafts when her kids are in school. Her son is in college and her daughter takes ballet.

The dog is happy when the man come back from work, and they take walks together. Each evening, they go for a quick jog to the dog run and back.

The daughter likes to sit on the balcony and read books about butterflies. Her brother gives her a cookie when he passes by in the kitchen to get orange juice.

They don’t look anything alike except for the same amused smile they give each other when their parents kiss in the morning during breakfast. The kids don’t mind, except it’s totally gross, but it’s just Mom and Dad, so it’s okay.

The man leaves for work the next morning, and the kids wave good-bye. The wife gives him a hug. The man picks up his bag and gets into the vehicle with all the other men.

The man turns around and sees his children and wife looking at him. They wave until the military truck disappears down the street.
